June 14, 2010 - Congratulations to Team St. Luke's on great results and times for the USATF Regional Meet held on Saturday, June 5 at Eastern Washington University's track field and the USATF Bigfoot Meet held on June 8 at Spokane Falls Community College.
The following athletes competed in the USATF Regional Meet: Susannah Scaroni, Mikila Salazar, Amberlynn Weber, Isaiah Rigo, Michael Hoyt, Kasey Andrews, Jordan Clyburn, Bob Hunt, Austin Pruitt, Chance Wells, Megan Scott, and Krystle Horton. Mikila Salazar, Isaiah Rigo, Chance Wells, Megan Scott and Krystle Horton competed in field events in addition to track. Several athletes qualified for the National Jr. Disability Championsihps: Mikila (400M), Isaiah (100M, 200M, 400M, 800M and 1500M), Kasey (100M, 200M and 400M) and Megan (100M, 200M and 400M).
The following athletes competed at the USATF Bigfoot meet at the track and field at SFCC: Susannah Scaroni, Christine Nielson, Mikila Salazar, Amberlynn Weber, Isaiah Rigo, Michael Hoyt, Kasey Andrews, Bob Hunt, Chelsea McClammer, Austin Pruitt, Megan Scott, and Jerry Martin joined us with his handcycle too. Christine and Austin hit Paralympic B standard times, the second highest ranking in the Paralympics. Several athletes qualified in the following events: Mikila (800M, shot), Michael (100M, 400M, shot, disucss and javelin), Megan (400M, shot and discuss) and Isaiah (shot and discus).
June 3, 2010 - Hosted by Cheney Track Club, Team St. Luke’s will be attending the 2010 USATF Inland Northwest Association Championship held on June 5 from 9:00 - 5:00 pm at Eastern Washington University’s track field. The following athletes will be competing: Austin Pruitt (Central Valley High School), Isaiah Rigo (Windsor Elementary), Mikila Salazar (Centennial Middle School), Bob Hunt (Spokane Falls Community College), Susannah Scaroni (Carroll College), Jordan Clyburn (Spokane Community College), Krystle Horton (Montana State University), Megan Scott (East Valley High School), Chance Wells (Kettle Falls Elementary), Kasey Andrews (Riverside High School), Amberlynn Weber (Central Valley High School), and Michael Hoyt (Shiloh Middle School).
The team will also be attending the 35th Annual Community Colleges of Spokane Bigfoot All-Comers Track and Field Meets held on June 8, 22 and 29 from 6:00 - 8:30 pm at Spokane Falls Community College. The competition is sponsored by Community Colleges of Spokane and sanctioned by the USATF Inland Northwest Association. Athletes competing in events will vary between the three days.
The USATF is the National Governing Body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking in the United States. USATF encompasses the world’s oldest organized sports and is the number one high school and junior high school participatory sport.
June 3, 2010 - Mariah Alexander is graduating from North Central High School and has signed with University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona to play on the Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team.
This year marks a stepping stone in Team St. Luke’s history as Mariah is the first female to be recruited to play on a collegiate basketball team. She was heavily recruited by the UA and will begin playing basketball as soon as she arrives on campus this fall.
May 20, 2010 - Team St. Luke’s competed at the 2010 Dogwood Track Meet. This year's competition was held from May 8 – 9 at University of Victoria’s Centennial Stadium in Victoria, Canada and included a fully integrated meet with wheelchair and able-bodied athletes. Team members and results include:
Jordan Clyburn: 31:76 (100M), 1:06:22 (200M) and 2:11:52 (400M).
Bob Hunt: 17:36 (100M), 31:48 (200M), 1:05:14 (400M) and 2:15:04 (800M).

The Dogwood Track & Field Meet is run by the Victoria Track and Field Club, a non-profit competitive track and field club which has been in existence for over 40 years. Their goals are to assist in the organization of club events and training, including supporting junior development in general track and field training.

Also, congratulations to Austan Pierce on his scholarship to attend the University of Texas Arlington. Austan’s interest in the university sparked during last year’s Nationals tournament where Teresa Skinner, Team St. Luke’s coordinator, introduced him to Doug Garner, coach for the UTA wheelchair basketball team. Austan kept in touch with Coach Garner and was able to meet him again during the National tournament this year hosted by Coach Garner on the UTA campus.
With interest in the university, Austan applied for admission and received a scholarship along with acceptance to play on the wheelchair basketball team. Austan will be leaving home to attend school in mid August. Congratulations Austan!
April 6, 2010 – Team St. Luke’s will be competing in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Championships April 7-11 in Denver, CO.
The NWBA is comprised of over 200 basketball teams across twenty-two conferences and seven divisions. The NWBA was founded in 1948, and today consists of men's, women's, intercollegiate, and youth teams throughout the United States and Canada.
February 9, 2010 - Team St. Luke’s recently returned from a successful weekend at the West Coast Conference Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. The Team St. Luke’s Prep division won the West Coast Conference Championship. The 10 foot team placed second.Held at Berkeley High School in California, the outcome of these tournaments established the West Coast champion for both the Prep and 10 foot division. Their scores impact the National ranking which will determine the teams they will be playing against during the National Championship Tournament.

Votes for the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) were also taken from coaches across all teams. Kelsie Christiansen from Arlington Elementary won the award for MVP of the entire Prep Division.
Dr. Nancy Starr, a pediatric neurologist at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital, had the opportunity to travel with the team and watch the tournaments for the first time. Involved with research regarding the positive impact of sports programs for children with disabilities, Dr. Starr witnessed the dynamics of Team St. Luke’s, "It was an awesome experience. I was so impressed by everyone’s efforts to do their best on the court and support each other as a team. I saw many kids really stretching their brains and physical abilities. The growth was exponential!"

February 5, 2010 - Congratulations to Team St. Luke’s Austan Pierce, Austin Pruitt, William Robbins, Mariah Alexander, Casey Zeigler, Kasey Andrews and Kyle Bocook on their success at the West Coast Regional Wheelchair Basketball Tournament.
Held at Kentwood High School in Covington, Washington, the outcome of these tournaments determined who would earn their spot to compete at the 2010 National Championship Tournament to be held in Denver, Colorado. Only the first and second spot teams qualify for Nationals and the team’s total scores have qualified them for Nationals.
Nick Wood, registered dietician at St. Luke’s, had the opportunity to travel with the team and watch the tournaments for the first time. A huge supporter of the team, Nick biked across America to raise funds for Team St. Luke’s. Nick recognized the impact of his efforts, “I was truly amazed at the athleticism and the aggressiveness of the games. It’s great to see the team effort of the athletes and the volunteers involved with Team St. Luke’s.” Several family members and friends were also able to travel with the team to support our players.
For the first time, the team has earned a place in the first tier of the top 16. With a spot in Nationals, the team currently ranks 8th in the entire nation for the Junior Division Ranking. The team is extremely excited and looking forward to maintaining their ranking in future tournaments. The following are the team’s results from the game:

November 30, 2009 - Congratulations to Team St. Luke’s Austan Pierce, Austin Pruitt, Casey Zeigler, Kasey Andrews and William Robbins on their success at the Jim Hayes Memorial Junior Division Tournament .
Coached by Chad Farrington, Tomie Zuchetto and assisted by Aloe Kadrevis, the team played in an 8 team tournament held on the University of Texas at Arlington campus, where wheelchair basketball is offered as a part of their collegiate athletics. With college scholarships given to play wheelchair basketball, two of our athletes are looking at attending UTA!
In prior years, our 10 foot team was considered a JV team and we were 7th in the entire country for JV, 10 foot teams. However, this season all Varsity and JV were combined to make a 10 foot Division. Last year’s results were taken into consideration, which currently ranks the team 27th in the Nation for all 10 foot teams!
Austan Pierce and Casey Zeigler were also selected to play basketball during the half-time of the University of Texas Austin versus Eastern Washington University game. The two were very excited to participate and they absolutely loved it. By the end of the tournament, Casey was selected for the All-Tournament team. The weekend brought our athletes with a lot of challenge, motivating our athletes to become better basketball players. Their total scores ranked the team in 4th place overall in the tournament. Their success will also make a huge impact on their current National ranking.

August 4, 2009 - Congratulations to the 17 members of Team St. Luke's who competed at the 2009 National Junior Disability Championships (NJDC) on all of their success! This year's NJDC competition took place in St. Charles, Missouri and Team St. Luke's brought home 122 medals: 80 gold, 31 silver and 11 bronze. Together the team had 23 record and record breaking scores. Team members and results include:
- Kyle Bocook: earned the gold for the shot event as well as silver medals in the discus, 100M, 200M, 400M and 800M events.
- Carmen Campbell: earned four gold medals in the 50 yard free swim, 50 yard back swim, 4x50 yard medley swim and in the 4x50 yard free swim, as well as one silver in the javelin event, one bronze in the shot event and 5th place in the discus event.
- Kelsie Christensen: took home the gold in the discus, javelin, shot, 100M, 200M, 400M, 50 yard free swim, 100 yard free swim, 4x50 yard medley swim and 4x50 yard free swim events. She had record scores in six of these events.
- Jordan Clyburn: earned gold in the 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M and 1500M events as well as silver in the powerlift 27.5kg, bench 32.5kg and total 60kg events.
- Bob Hunt: record scores in the powerlift 52.5kg and total 105kg events, gold in the bench 52.5kg, silver in the 100M and bronze in the 200M, 400M, 800M, 1500M, 4x100 events.
- Michelle Kazuba: had a gold winning record score in the discus event, as well as gold medal scores in the javelin, shot, 50 yard back swim, 50 and 100 yard breast swim, 50 yard fly swim and three additional 4x50 swim events, as well as a bronze in the 50 yard free swim.
- Chelsea McClammer: earned gold medals in the100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1500M and 5000M events, as well as a silver medal in the javelin.
- Christine Nielson: took gold in the club, discus, javelin, shot, 800M and 1500M events, silver in the 200M, 400M, powerlift 32.5kg and total 65kg events as well as bronze in the 100M event.
- Emily Owens: took the gold with a record score in the 100M event, took gold in the club, 200M, 400M, 800M and 1500M events, as well as silver in the javelin event and bronze in the shot event.
- Austan Pierce: took home five gold medals for the javelin, shot, powerlift 62.5kg, bench65kg, and total 127.5kg events, as well as one silver medal for the discus event.
- Austin Pruitt: gold-winning scores in the club, discus, shot, 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1500M and javelin, with record scores in eight of these events.
- Isaiah Rigo: took medals with record scores in the javelin and shot events, earned gold in the 100M, 200M, 400M events and as well as silver in the discus event.
- Mikila Salazar: took home gold medals for the discus, javelin and shot events, as well as silver medals for the 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M and 1500M events.
- Susannah Scaroni: record scores in the powerlift 40kg and total 75kg events took the gold in bench 35kg, 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M and 1500M events, as well as silver in the 5000M event.
- Kimberly Sutton: took the gold in the 4x50 medley and free swim events, silver in the discus and shot events, placed 4th in the 50 yard back swim and 5th in the 50 yard free swim.
- Amberlynn Weber: earned gold in the powerlift 55kg, bench 55kg and total 110kg events, silver in the 200M, 400M, 800M and 1500M events, as well as bronze in the 100M.
- Casey Zeigler: took gold with a record score in the 125kg bench event, took gold in the total 227.5kg event, silver medals in the discus, shot and powerlift 102.5kg events and placed 5th in the javelin event.

July 1, 2009- Team St. Luke’s did not disappoint this past weekend at the annual Hoopfest 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Out of all of the participating teams, Team St. Luke’s had two teams in the championship round - the St. Luke's Boys, made up of William Robbins, Kasey Andrews, Kyle Bocook and Isaiah Rig competing against the Wheels, made up of Casey Zeigler, Austan Pierce and Josh Brewer. There were several remarkable rookie players on the five Team St. Luke’s Hoopfest teams. Team St. Luke's yet again showed Spokane just how impressive they can be! Congratulations to all St. Luke’s Hoopfest athletes and teams.
June 20, 2009 - Nick Wood, registered dietitian at St. Luke's and avid cyclist, is participating in a bicycle ride across America while raising funds for Team St. Luke's. His 50-day adventure starts in Astoria, Oregon on Monday, June 22 and ends in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Monday, August 10. Throughout his journey, Nick will cycle over 3,600 miles! Kate: 100, 400, shot and discusJune 1, 2009 - Team St. Luke’s athlete and 2008 Paralympian Chelsea McClammer, was invited to compete in the Paralympic World Cup event in Manchester, England; one of only 9 athletes from the United States who was chosen to compete in this year’s event. Joining Chelsea was Team St. Luke’s coach Teresa Skinner, who was selected as one of only two U.S. coaching staff members to attend the event. Competing against seasoned athletes, Chelsea set a personal record in the 1500 meter race and came in 5th in both the 1500 and 800 meter races. February 10, 2009 - Team St. Luke’s, the adaptive sports team for St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute, hosted the first ever West Coast Conference Championship Tournament in Spokane February 7-8, 2009, at Central Valley High School. The tournament was a huge success for all the athletes, coaches, volunteers and fans, which even included a few Gonzaga Men’s Basketball team members. June 18, 2008 - Congratulations to Team St. Luke’s athlete for her success at the Paralympics in Beijing. Chelsea did extremely well at the Paralympics beating her personal records twice with a time of 1.51.88. After returning from Beijing, Chelsea exclaimed, “It was amazing. I never expected so many fans.” Over 91,000 people attended her 800 meter track event. When asked if they made her nervous she said not really. “I forgot about them while racing and it was awesome to have the energy when I was done.” She finished in the top eight of her class.
Chelsea’s favorite part was competing with the elite athletes and learning from them. She plans to return in 2012 for the London Paralympics. Keep your eye on this star for years to come!
July 29, 2008 - Team St. Luke’s athletes traveled to Piscataway, New Jersey in July to compete against over 400 athletes from across the nation and the globe in the 2008 National Junior Disability Championships (NJDC) at Rutgers University. Five of the fifteen athletes were also invited to compete in the International Junior Disability Championships. This year’s competitions ran July 19-27 with Team St. Luke’s taking 96 gold medals, 19 silver medals, and 9 bronze. Overall the team brought home 134 medals with 15 athletes and broke 35 national records! Team members and results include:
- Carly Allen - 3 gold medals in the shot, discus, and javelin, breaking 3 national records, and took silver and 2 bronze in swimming—100M free, 50M back and 100M back, breaking 1 national record, and a silver in 3-on-3 basketball.
- Kasey Andrews – 4 gold medals in the shot, discus, javelin and club breaking 1 national record; 4 gold medals in the 100M, 400M, 800M, 1500M and broke 4 national records; gold in the pentathalon, breaking the national record; and a silver in 3-on-3 basketball.
- Kelsie Christenson - 5 gold medals in the shot, discus, long jump, softball and javelin breaking 5 national records; 4 gold medals in swimming –50M free and back, 25 yd free and 100M free; and on the track 3 gold medals in 100M, 400M, and 800M and 2 silver in the 60M and 200M.
- Jordan Clyburn – 6 gold medals in 60M, 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M and 4X100 Relay and 3 gold in powerlifting.
- Bob Hunt - bronze medal in the javelin; bronze in the pentathalon and gold in the 800 Medley relay, 3 gold medals in power-lifting, and a silver in 3-on-3 basketball.
- Michelle Kazuaba - 5 gold medals in the shot, discus, and javelin, softball and long jump breaking 3 national records; gold in 2 swimming events- 50M free and back.
- Chelsea McClammer – 5 gold medals in the 800M, 1500M and 5000M, silver in the 100M, 200M, 400M and pentathalon; and silver in the 3-on-3 basketball.
- Emily Owens - 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal in the shot, discus, javelin and club; 7 gold medals in the 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1500M and two 4X100M relays, 1 gold medal in the Pentathalon, 1 bronze medal in 3-on-3 basketball; and 6 national records in track and pentathalon.
- Mica Price – 3 gold medals in the shot, discus, javelin; 4 gold medals in swimming-25Yd free, 50M free, 25yd back, 50M back; and 3 national records in field and 2 national records in swimming.
- Austin Pruitt - 5 gold medals in the shot, discus and javelin, long jump and club, breaking 2 national records; gold medals in the 100M, 200M, and 400M breaking 1 national record in track; gold medal in the pentathalon, breaking 1 national record.
- Isaiah Rigo – 3 gold medals in the shot, discus and javelin; 1 silver medal in softball; 5 gold medals in the 60M, 100M, 200M, 400M and the 4X100 Relay; and 3 national records in field.
- Mikila Salazar -1 gold medal and 2 silver medals in the shot, discus and javelin; and one gold medal in the 4X100 relay.
- David Watts – 4 gold medals in 100M, 200M, 400M, and 800M.
- Amberlynn Weber – 5 gold medals in 100M, 200M, 400M, 4X100 relay and 800 medley relay; 3 silver medals in the 800M 1500M and 5000 meter race; gold medal in the pentathalon and silver in the 3-on-3 basketball.
- Casey Zeigler - 3 gold medals in the shot, discus and javelin; 3 gold medals in power-lifting; and 1 silver in 3-on-3 basketball.
The International Competition occurred at the same time and place as the NJDCs. There were over 17 countries and 200 athletes represented at this International competition. The results from the International Competition are as follows:
- Amberlynn Weber – Gold medal in the 4x400 relay, Silver medal in the 100m, and a bronze medal in both the 400m and 800m.
- Chelsea McClammer – Gold in the 4x400m relay, and Silver medals in the 200m, 400m, 800m and the 5000m.
- Jordan Clyburn – Bronze medal in the 1500m.
- David Watts – Gold medal in the 4x100m relay and bronze in the 400m.
- Bob Hunt – 6th place in the 1500m.
Volunteer Coaches who travelled with Team St. Luke’s include: Teresa Skinner, Tomie Zuchetto, Leann Anzalone, Janell Dyball, Chad Farrington, Sara Schmidt, Karie Allen, Nicki Kane, and Krista Osborne.
The NJDC has grown since its inception in 1984 to include over 250 athletes with spinal injuries, cerebral palsy, visual impairments, amputations, limb deficiencies, and other congenital anomalies from all over the United States and several foreign countries. Athlete’s ages range from 7 years old to 21 years old. Events included: Track, Field, Pentathlon, Swimming, Archery, Table Tennis, 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball, and weightlifting. Spokane was host to last year’s National Junior Disability Championships. Events were held at both Spokane Falls Community College and Gonzaga Prep High School.
