This session will define and explore active responses to moral injuries specific to health care settings. We will work from a definition of moral injury as a workplace incident in which an employee’s normal duties collide with specific circumstances of a patient’s care resulting in a transgression of the caregiver’s deeply held moral beliefs and expectations. Participants will gain skills to distinguish between differences in professional approach, moral dilemmas, and moral injuries. Participants will also gain knowledge of techniques to recover from moral injury and work with institutional resources to prevent recurrence.
