Balance and Fall Prevention

Better Bones and BalanceAs we age, many of us experience an increasing loss of bone mass, which over time can become a serious condition. At St. Luke’s, we know that osteoporosis is only debilitating if left untreated. Our Balance and Fall Prevention program is specially designed to prevent the advancement of osteoporosis and give patients the exercise and education to effectively manage their condition. Through this program, our experienced physical and occupational therapists design tailored treatment plans that build strength, increase mobility and empower our patients to live their fullest lives.

After a functional assessment, St. Luke’s patients will work with their assigned therapist to perform weight-bearing exercises that improve balance to prevent future falls and injuries. Tailored treatment plans can include a combination of land and aquatic exercises, as well as occupational therapy to promote independence. By developing and sticking with an exercise plan, patients can effectively slow their bone density loss, enhance their ability to function on a daily basis and embrace life to the fullest.
