St. Luke’s occupational therapists work with patients to assess their physical, visual and mental ability to operate a vehicle safely. Evaluations are measured against benchmarks such as reactionary times, visual acuity and decision-making abilities. Our therapists use this information to guide recommendations, strategies, equipment or training. The goal is to either improve the patient’s ability, or provide an alternate strategy for transportation.

Individuals with a valid driver’s license who:

  • Have suffered a recent head injury, stroke, or other neurological deficit
  • Have a decline in vision and/or memory
  • Have a new physical disability causing limitations that may affect safe operation of a vehicle
  • Have a history of accidents or have been reported to be an at-risk driver
